Roelof Botha joined Sequoia in 2003 and serves as a managing partner and steward. He is in charge of Sequoia's U.S. and European operations, after the company split its global brands in 2023. He focuses on internet, services and software investments.Botha backed database program MongoDB (IPO 2017), which has a market capitalization of $17.6 billion as of June 2024. Other bets include Eventbrite (IPO 2018), gaming engine Unity (IPO 2020), Block (IPO 2015), 23andMe (IPO 2021) and Bird (IPO 2021).More than 60 percent of Sequoia's investments were in artificial intelligence and machine learning companies in 2023. Roelof led seed-stage bets in AI mentoring app Meeno and AI chief of staff Mindy.
